Ro unit aquarium installation
Some municipalities may require installation by a licensed plumber. Check your local plumbing codes for more information. If the sink has a sprayer, it may be disconnected for faucet installation. A pipe cap or plug will be necessary to seal the sprayer connection or sprayer can be left connected under the sink.
To make the faucet-mounting hole if sprayer hole or other existing hole is not used , check below to make sure the drill will not interfere with anything below. The faucet should be positioned so it empties into the sink and the spout swivels freely for convenience. If the sink has a hole that can accommodate the RO faucet, no drilling is required.
Proceed with mounting the faucet. Precautions must be taken to penetrate the porcelain through to the metal base and prevent chipping or scratching. Note: Air Gap Faucets are required by some municipalities. Ask your local dealer for more information. Disassemble hardware from the treaded shank. Chrome base plates and rubber washers slide up the shank to the faucet body. Feed threaded shank through the sink hole and orient the faucet. From below sink, slide lock washer and hex nut over threaded shank and tighten with a wrench.
Note: It is best to have someone hold the faucet from above the sink to keep it from moving out of place. If this is not possible then tighten the hex nut until it is just slightly less than completely tight. Then turn the faucet base from above the sink, tightening it while orienting the faucet in the desired location. The John Guest Angle Stop Valve provides a simple, easy connection between the angle stop cold water shut-off and the bottom of the riser tube.
The Angle Stop Valve has built-in shut-off and provides the feed supply connection for the reverse osmosis system. These flexible tubes are the easiest to use with the John Guest Angle Stop Valve because the 2" of additional space needed for the Faucet Adaptor can be easily accommodated by flexing this kind of riser.
A shorter riser tube will not be needed. If your riser tube is made of copper you will need to either make a bend in the copper to allow for the 2" of space needed for the John Guest Angle Stop Valve. In some cases, older plumbing may use a larger size shut-off and riser tube. Alternatives include self piercing valves, T fittings, and faucet adaptors that connect between the faucet and the top of the riser tube.
It should not be used on ribbed, corrugated, reinforced plastic or steel braided tubing. Ask your local dealer what alternatives can be used in place of the self-piercing valve if one cannot be used under your sink. The Faucet Adaptor not supplied and Ball Valve not supplied will work with all standard kitchen faucets and provide a reliable connection to supply feed water to the RO unit.

A copper tubing cutter is the ideal tool for making this cut although a hack saw can be used. If a cut is made, a new compression ring not supplied will need to be installed to make a new water tight connection with the riser tube and the angle stop shut-off valve. The drain saddle valve should always be installed before above the p-trap and on a vertical or horizontal drain.
Do not install the drain saddle near a garbage disposal to avoid clogging the drain line with debris. For convenience on under sink installations it may be advisable to complete under sink tubing connections at this time. The sediment cartridge, carbon block cartridge s , and reverse osmosis membrane must all be installed in the RO unit. The cartridges are provided in sanitary packaging. Please wash hands or use gloves when handling the cartridges. The melt blown polypropylene sediment cartridge is the first on the inlet side, followed by the carbon block cartridge s CBC Both of these cartridges can be installed with either end in first.
The membrane goes into the membrane housing with the o-ring end first. Be sure RO Membrane is pushed into Membrane housing as far as it will go. The RO unit is normally mounted to the right or left sink cabinet sidewall, depending on where supply tank is to be located.
Generally the unit is installed at the front of the cabinet and the tank at the rear. The restrictor must be in the closed position 90 degrees to the restrictor as pictured below to produce water and open to flush the unit inline with the restrictor body. Restrictor closed for water production Restrictor open for flushing the unit only.
Before the restrictor can be installed the end connectors of the restrictor will need to be sealed with PTFE tape to prevent any leaking at the threads see images below. Once the threads have been sealed the orange RO waste pipe can be cleanly cut and pushed firmly into each end of the restrictor taking note of the flow direction.
PTFE the threads Screw in the end connectors. You can sit the unit directly on the floor or mount it to the wall or other solid structure via the hangers on the back of the pod bracket. The membrane housing will come with small colour coded pieces of RO tube so to let you know where each pipe should be connected.
If the pipe samples are misplaced the product water pipe push fitting sits above the waste pipe push fitting, I have included an image of the internal of the membrane housing should you be in any doubt as to where each exits internally. If you wish to cut the RO pipe work down do this cleanly and squarely then push the orange, blue and white pipes into the appropriate push fittings.
The blue pipe will need to be run from the RO unit to your product water collecting vessel. Before installing the membrane you should turn the mains water and run the unit without the membrane for around 10 minutes with just the sediment and carbon filters installed. The reason for this being that small fines can exit the carbon filter for the first run and these can find their way into the membrane.
Now turn the water feed off to the RO unit and unscrew the end cap of the membrane housing, removing the RO pipe from the end cap will make this easier. Now screw on the end cap and refit the RO pipe to the end of the cap. Installation is now complete and you should run the unit to produce at least 5 gallons of water that should be disposed of before the product water can be used to, this will wash out any preservative agents used to keep the membrane in good condition whilst packaged.
A Yes, if the membrane dries out it will be damaged, when not in use lift the product water pipe above the outlet so the unit cant drain. If stored for long periods install taps on the RO pipework so you can isolate the unit so water cant drain or evaporate. Give the unit a good flush or run weekly to keep it free of bacterial build up regardless. A No this is an urban myth, just ensure the membrane cant dry out as above if not used for a while.
Q The product water is dribbling out of the blue pipe but water is squirting out of the waste pipe.? A This is normal, remember the ratio of waste to product is around waste to 1 product water depending on mains pressure. Make sure your flush valve is in the off position as if not all water will flush to waste with little or no product water being collected.
More info can be found here Click me. Q My water production rate is very slow regardless of temperature and when i run the taps in my house water isnt in any real hurry, what can i do about my mains pressure? A If you suffer from low water pressure you can install a booster pump.
This is very simple and all you need to do is break into the white RO supply pipe to install the booster pump inline and plug it in, your RO production should then increase by some margin. A The sediment and carbon filters should be changed every months depending on the quality of your tap water, the carbon filter protects the membrane from chlorine damage and the sediment prevents the membrane from premature blocking.
